In recognition of National Mental Health Month, Women In Government, a national, bi-partisan, non-profit organization representing women state legislators has released a Mental Health Legislative Toolkit. This Toolkit is designed to provide state legislators with the essential tools necessary to promote legislation and educate their constituents on the various issues surrounding mental health, including education and treatment.
A report released by Women In Government (WIG) shows that states are making progress in the fight against cervical cancer. However, despite tremendous progress, there still is substantial variation with cervical cancer prevention efforts, particularly for underserved populations, across the states. Among the steps still needed to make effective cervical cancer prevention a reality for women at all socioeconomic levels is to increase funding for screening and vaccination programs to ensure access for women who are uninsured or underinsured. These findings from A Roadmap for Success: The State of Cervical Cancer Prevention in America 2010, the sixth and final state-by-state comparison report released by WIG, are designed to highlight the tremendous strides that have been made to battle cervical cancer since WIG took up the initiative six years ago.
The Vice Chair of Women In Government's Board of Directors, Representative Kim Rosen, hosted a State Briefing in Maine on March 24. This, the second in a series of Adult Education Briefings, featured Karen Steinberg from the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL) and continued the efforts from the 2009 Adult Learning Summit.

Mary Brooks Beatty, President of Women In Government, represented the United States at the Women Against Cervical Cancer (WACC) Third International Forum. The forum was held February 17-18, 2010 in Monaco. WACC represents 31 women’s organizations from 22 nations across the world.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently announced that the North Carolina Community Care Networks (NC-CCN) was selected to expand Patient Centered Medical Homes. The Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) is a comprehensive approach to primary care for patients and coordinated care throughout the system. Centered on primary care, it reduces costs and improves quality. The PCMH encourages the use of primary and preventative care for patients which moves away from the current model of acute episodic care.
Illinois Representative Patti Bellock, Midwestern Regional Director on the Women In Government Board of Directors, gave the keynote address at the Fourth Annual European Cervical Cancer Summit Meeting held by the European Cervical Cancer Association (ECCA) and Politicians for Cervical Cancer Prevention. The meeting was held January 24-30, 2010 in Brussels, Belgium in the European Parliament. The meeting was held to review the state and progress of cervical cancer prevention programs across Europe. Additionally, this meeting reviewed technologies available in the fight against cervical cancer, including advances in screening tools, and the role these advances play in prevention programs.
Women In Government welcomed its new Board of Directors at the 16th Annual State Directors’ Conference held January 7 through January 9, 2010 at the Ritz Carlton Laguna Niguel in Dana Point, California.
Women In Government (WIG) hosted its largest and most successful State Directors’ Conference from January 7 through January 9, 2010 at the Ritz Carlton Laguna Niguel in Dana Point, California. With 38 states represented and over 130 total in attendance, WIG was able to reach legislators across the country.
January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month. Women In Government encourages state legislators to address cervical cancer prevention by increasing access to the most advanced screening and preventive technologies, particularly for underserved women, and increasing awareness about HPV and cervical cancer.
