2026-2027 Business Council Leadership Application Form

Election Process

Applications for Business Council Leadership will be accepted annually. Candidates may be nominated by a Business Council member or may be self-nominated. All candidates must complete an application, which will be reviewed by the Business Council Nominating Committee, consisting of the Chair, Chair-Elect, Vice Chair and Immediate Past Chair.  The Business Council Nominating Committee will meet to review the applications and confirm the ability of the Vice Chair to become Chair-Elect and the Chair-Elect to become Chair. The Business Council Nominating Committee will recommend a slate of nominees for approval by voice vote of the Business Council at its in-person meeting during the Leadership & Innovation Summit. Incoming leadership will be recognized and will assume office during the annual Leadership & Innovation Summit.

Timeline for Business Council Leadership Elections
  • Friday, October 23, 2026: Applications due
  • Friday, November 6, 2026: Slate of nominees shared with Business Council
  • Thursday, November 19, 2026: Slate of nominees presented and approved by Business Council at the Leadership & Innovation Summit.
Description of Business Council Chair Responsibilities (1-year term)
  • Convene and lead Business Council meetings, in-person or via conference call.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between the Business Council and the Women In Government Board of Directors.
  • Attend Women In Government Board of Directors’ meetings as the Business Council liaison.
  • Facilitate introductions for Women in Government officers/staff with potential corporate sponsors.
  • Collaborate with Women in Government on corporate sponsor outreach strategies.
  • Appoint committees of the Business Council to address specific projects or matters.
Description of Business Council Chair-Elect Responsibilities (1-year term)
  • Lead Business Council meetings in the absence of the Chair.
  • Serve as Interim Chair in the event of a vacancy until a new election can be held.
  • Lead specific initiatives at the request of the Chair.
Description of Business Council Vice Chair Responsibilities (1-year term)
  • Lead Business Council meetings in the absence of both the Chair and Chair-Elect.
  • Lead specific initiatives at the request of the Chair.
